Fostering Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship

CIIE aims at fostering innovation-driven entrepreneurship through incubation, research and dissemination of knowledge. It was setup by IIM, Ahmedabad in 2001 and is supported by Government of Gujarat and the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Since its inception, a host of organizations, professionals, academicians and networking partners within India and across the globe have been closely associated with the initiatives of CIIE. Some of the ongoing projects are also being backed by Wadhwani Foundation (set up by IT entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, USA), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (GoI), Piramal Foundation and Microsoft.

Setting up of CIIE was an outcome of the first national workshop on Indian Incubator for Innovation Based Enterprise (I3E) at IIMA in 1998, which brought together innovators, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, technology administrators and academics to understand the processes and policies related to commercializing technology based innovations by individual innovators. Expertise at IIMA in areas of technology network, management, grassroots level innovations and entrepreneurship development, provided the necessary impetus and the intellectual basis for this initiative.

Whirlybird Electronics

Whirlybird was founded by Mr. Bramh Datt Awasthi (B.Tech, Aerospace Engg; 2004 batch passout) in Aug 2004. Aim is to establish a benchmark in the field of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (both fixed wing & rotary wing) and process automation. The endeavor towards the making of UAV’s however, started in Jan 2002 itself as a B.Tech Project. The first objective of the B.Tech project was to design an Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) for a mini helicopter (6 kg weight with 4 kg payload capacity). AFCS developed during the project could stabilize the helicopter’s 3 rotational degrees of freedom. more »

Flexinails

Dr. Thakkar has devised a cost effective orthopedic nail to treat unstable fractures of femur (hip-thigh joint and around) in elderly and long bones in children. The invention is a result of his long experience in treating a variety of cases using existing materials from domestic and international sources. Working on the inefficiencies that plagued such equipment, he devised this long nail, which has given very good results. It has been tried out by several others in the domain and results ratified. more »

Save The Environment

Dr. Kshipra Misra, a scientist from Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) had innovated and developed the technology of the Arsenic Removal Filter and was awarded the silver medal for Anveshan, the nationwide search for innovations, conducted by Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.more »
