RE-Search, the upcoming focus of CIIE’s energy

Re-Search is an endeavor by CIIE and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to identify and incubate entrepreneurial ideas aimed at solving India’s energy crisis.
The program aims to create viable business models around existing clean energy related technologies and commercialize existing scalable technologies developed by innovators across the world. Its main focus areas are energy generation, efficiency and storage space rather than fundamental research. The program, starting June 1, will provide support, recognition, licensing, seedfunding and mentoring to the following groups mentioned here:
• Technology-based early stage startups in the area of renewable energy with viable business models and complimentary teams.
• Budding entrepreneurs (EIRs) interested in setting up their venture in this growing sector, but not having yet narrowed down on their business idea.
• Innovators interested in commercializing their research work through creation of an enterprise or licensing.
Accelerating the ideas in internet and mobile domain

The iAccelerator is a program that literally intends to “accelerate” brilliant entrepreneurs on the path to success. The program aims to establish well run, innovative, profitable technology companies in India. Participating entrepreneurs are encouraged to fully leverage CIIE’s experience of setting up companies, its business network, access to mentors
and finance. Consistent with its aim to provide hands-on assistance to entrepreneurs, the program requires participants to live and work from Ahmedabad from May through September 2009. Besides developing their
products, participants meet industry veterans, learn new technologies, attend workshops to enhance their skills and cross-pollinate each other with ideas. This year, out of nearly 100 applications, the Centre accepted 10 teams to be a part of the program. The start-ups are broadly in the IT and Mobile segment, covering interesting domains like SaaS, Search Engine Crawlers, Job Aggregators, Social Media, Gaming Industry and Mobile File Sharing platforms. Team Hash- Cube launched its first product within two weeks of the program and is now looking at additional funding. Another team – Redanyway – is ready to launch its Distributed Social Network a concept starting to gain currency across the world. The program also launched the “Entrepreneur in Residence” concept for passionate would-be entrepreneurs in search of an idea.

Alfa Imaging selected as one of 100 ‘Global Partners’ by UKTI
Monday, July 13th, 2009UK Trade & Investment, the UK Government’s international business development organization, has chosen Alfa Imaging as a potential participant in its ‘Global Partnership Program’ (GPP), with an objective of promoting joint technology development initiatives with UK based companies and institutions. Alfa Imaging is one of less than 100 companies selected out of over 20,000 firms. Alfa Imaging has developed a new technology for the quality control of Motion Picture Film Processing. This technology has received two US patents and selected for presentation at a conference of Hollywood Post Alliance held at Hollywood in February 2009.
UKTI’s GPP would support its partner companies to grow internationally through trade and investment as well as identify potential partners in the UK for technology development.
Global Tech inaugurates multi usage kit for targeted applications
Monday, July 13th, 2009Global Tech recently inaugurated a multi usage kit called “MDB Kit” (Multi Purpose Development Board). The MDB-1000 Board provides integrated features that enable users to develop and test designs based on applications.
This kit specifically targets:

- Robotics
MDB has already enabled several applications such as high-speed multi-color Industrial Printing, Dissolution Medicine Testers, Laser Marking Machines, and Digital Photo Printer. Biosense Tech bags Healthcare Award at Sankalp 2009
Monday, July 13th, 2009Biosense Technologies won the Emerging Award for innovative key entrepreneur ideation in healthcare at Sankalp 2009, India’s Largest Social Enterprise and Investment Forum.
Biosense Technologies is actively focused on combating anaemia – the cause of 40% maternal and infant mortality.
Under their Anaemedia project, Biosense has developed a prick-less anaemia scanner that can measure HB levels and help diagnose anaemia by referring to an accompanying simple chart. It is designed for use by low skilled village health workers, rugged and dust-proof to last in the countryside, and equipped with a rechargeable battery and hand crank mechanism for operation in areas with infrequent electric supply.
The Jury for the healthcare awards at Sankalp was chaired by Mohanjit Jolly, Executive Director, Draper Fisher Jurvetson who complimented the entrepreneurs on their ideas and expressed his conviction that if the presenting companies achieved “a fraction of what they are capable of, we would be referring to them in the future as ‘game changing’”. Biosense’s innovation was also reognized at the Bombay Medical Congress 2009.
